When do I need thicker glass than the standard 4mm?
Thicker glass than the standard 4mm is needed in situations where increased strength, safety, or insulation is required. For large windows, doors, or glass panels subject to wind loads or impact, thicker glass helps prevent breakage. In places that require better sound insulation or thermal performance, such as exterior windows facing busy streets or glass walls in buildings, thicker glass is often used. Additionally, safety regulations may require thicker glass for areas close to the floor, in bathrooms, or for balustrades and railings.
For typical windows and doors, when we exceed 1300mm in both directions per glass unit, or one dimension exceed 2400mm, we switch to 6mm HD glazing, to improve strength and stability. It also increases the performance of the glass over the long term
